The Philosopher’s Club

A meeting of the minds

Welcome Philosophers!

This is our first visit to the Philosopher’s Club blog for the 2009-2010 school year. I hope you have a chance to read what previous philosophers have written. For your first experience on the  blog, you will be choosing a “thunk” to which you will respond. Remember to first think deeply before you make your choice and respond in print.

A New Class of Philosophers

Welcome to our discussion place! Today’s post will be the first time the Second Semester Philosophers participate in our club blog. Ignore the ads that pop up in various spots. That is the price we pay for using a “free” blog.( Here’s a good question to think about, Philosophers: Is there a cost for something if you don’t use money?)

Last week I asked you to think about this problem:

Would you rather be rich or smart?

Write your answer in the reply box and follow the directions. Please do not use extra punctuation. Sign only your first name. After I receive your post by email, I will publish your reply. You may send more than one comment. You may ask questions of your own and reply to questions other Philosophers write. Lots of comments means we are having a real conversation.

Let’s get started!

What is The Philosopher’s Club?

This weekly discussion group at Collegiate is inspired by 2 modern philosophers and many philosophers from the past.

Christopher Phillips believes that we can all stretch our minds by asking questions and thinking about the answers. To learn more about Mr Phillips, check his biography: http://www.christopherphillips.com/

Marietta McCarty has written a wonderful book, Little Big Minds to share ideas and encourage critical thinking in young people. Learn more about Ms. McCarty and her book at this site
